Tax Reductions
The CISI is a HMRC approved professional organisation, so Membership fees qualify for a Tax reduction
and can be included in your annual tax return
as an allowable expense. Please note your firm will be entitled to show this as an allowable expense if
they pay your membership fee for you.
Please note you cannot claim tax back on fees on subscriptions for:
- Life time membership subscriptions
- Fees or subscriptions you have not paid yourself
Please note - Fellows, Chartered Fellows and Chartered Members of the Institute
who do not
renew their membership, will only be able to reinstate as a MCSI should they wish to reinstate their
membership
in the future.
+ There is an additional £64.00 fee for Members who currently hold the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL
PLANNER
TM professional designation.
* Concessionary Rates - 50% reduction on the Standard Rate for members who are retired, unemployed or on
maternity leave. Please email
yourmembership@cisi.org
to claim concessionary rates.
Reinstatement Adminstration Fee - Payment of overdue renewal subscription may incur an additional
reinstatement administration fee of up to £50.
Reinstatement
Members whose subscriptions have lapsed will be able to reinstate their current year's membership at
the cost
of the full annual fee for that membership year plus a £55 administration fee. Members can
reinstate
their membership within three years of it lapsing, after that, they will need to re-apply for
membership.
Fellow, Chartered Fellows and Chartered Members of the Institute who do not renew their
membership, will
need to note, that should they wish to reinstate their membership in the future, they will only
be able to
reinstate as a MCSI.

Concessionary Fees
The CISI offers a range of concessionary fees for new members and members renewing their annual
subscriptions. These
are
available to any non-Student member who, at the time of renewal, is either;
- On maternity leave
- Unemployed*
- Retired*
The concessionary rate is 50% of the full annual subscription. *The CISI has a strict definition for
both
"unemployed" and "retired". Anyone who is receiving income may not claim a retired or unemployed
concessionary fee. Please email yourmembership@cisi.org to claim concessionary rates. Please note
concessions are not offered for members upgrading or reinstating their membership.
Life Time Membership Option - Retired Members Only
The CISI has a lifetime membership option for retired members. Any retired (non-Student) member will
now have
the option of making a one-off payment to obtain life-long membership of the CISI. The fee has
been set at
10 times the concessionary rate (or five times the full rate) for that category. For more
information please
contact us.
Tax Relief
As the CISI is a professional body and membership is relevant to the job you do, membership and
joining fees
qualify for tax relief.
Therefore you can include this on your annual tax return as an allowable expense and this will reduce
your
final tax bill by a percentage of the fee. If your employer pays your fees then they would be
entitled to
show this as an allowable expense, but then you cannot also claim the cost on your own tax
return.
The Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment is listed on HMRC Approved professional
organisations and learned societies list as Securities and Investment Chartered Institute for
(formerly the Institute for Securities and Investment).
